Jerry Sanders discussed issues of business between San Diego and Mexico, more specifically Baja and Tijuana. He explained that they are currently working to increase the lanes in the San Ysidro border from 30 to 62. This will promote economic wellbeing in San Diego, as this will create 62,000 more jobs in the San Diego region. This is great news for all those that are looking for jobs but unfortunately currently unemployed here.
Sanders also talked about a vision of bringing the San Diego NFL Chargers’ stadium to the East Village of downtown. The move from Mission Valley to downtown would land the stadium near the trolley station and take up about 8 square blocks of downtown. He mentioned that this stadium would have the smallest environmental footprint of any NFL stadium. This move would also instigate economic growth with game-goers boosting surrounding restaurants, shops, and bars businesses before and after football games. This is great news for Chargers fans that are tired of the current Qualcomm stadium’s lack of aesthetic appeal in the middle of Mission Valley.
